Vanilla Buttercream

…the perfect frosting

I’m a huge fan of buttercream because it is so versatile and can take on so many different flavors. Below is my recipe for simple homemade buttercream.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl

  • Whisk

  • Measuring cups

For the icing

  • 2 sticks of butter (room temperature)

  • 1 tablespoon of clear vanilla extract

  • 5 and 1/2 cups of powdered sugar

  • 1 - 2 tablespoons of water to thin out

  • Beat on high speed your butter and clear vanilla extract for about 5 minutes until butter becomes a very pale yellow color

  • Next, add in your powdered sugar one cup at a time while mixing on low/medium speed

  • Continue slowly adding in your powdered sugar until you’ve reached the desired consistency you’re looking for

  • Add a tablespoon or two to your icing if it becomes to stiff - it still needs to be malleable enough to pipe out.
