Vanilla Buttercream
…the perfect frosting
I’m a huge fan of buttercream because it is so versatile and can take on so many different flavors. Below is my recipe for simple homemade buttercream.
Equipment
Mixing bowl
Whisk
Measuring cups
For the icing
2 sticks of butter (room temperature)
1 tablespoon of clear vanilla extract
5 and 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
1 - 2 tablespoons of water to thin out
Beat on high speed your butter and clear vanilla extract for about 5 minutes until butter becomes a very pale yellow color
Next, add in your powdered sugar one cup at a time while mixing on low/medium speed
Continue slowly adding in your powdered sugar until you’ve reached the desired consistency you’re looking for
Add a tablespoon or two to your icing if it becomes to stiff - it still needs to be malleable enough to pipe out.
